First Days of School

Two days are officially under our belts!! They have been jam packed with information and excitement, I bet your little ones are coming home simply exhausted!

Most parents are probably wondering, what is my child learning this week? And the answer to that is a simple one; rules and procedures. As kindergartners, most of them haven't been exposed to a strict educational setting before so there is a LOT to learn! We have procedures for everything from how to leave our seats to how to get a pencil. It's necessary when you have a full class of precious 5 year olds. 😊

If you'd like to help out, reinforcing our school PAWS and asking your child about how we do things at school is a great way to do so. We strive for the following "rules" in our school:
P- positive attitude - smile and think positive
A- act responsible. Show respect to others.
W- make wise choices. Keeping hands, feet, body and objects to self.
S- stay focused. Our focus is to learn.

The W and S are two of the hardest ones to follow because we love our friends and want to touch and play with hair and hug! And focus is a tough thing for anyone, especially these little ones! Encouraging your child to remember these PAWS and using the terminology at home will be so helpful in getting our school year started.

I will be starting with "homework" very soon. It will consist of a reading log (parents read to child if they are not yet independent readers), sight word flash cards (they will know 100 sight words by the end of this year! Your help is HUGE in this area). And they will also get math and writing homework. Most things should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete 😊.

Parents, I am so blessed to have your child in my class and absolutely love each and every one of them to pieces. Please don't hesitate to call, email or respond here if you ever have any questions.

Tomorrow I will be sending home our behavior management system information. I use something called Class Dojo and your child should be able to tell you all about it. You'll have a personal log in to access your child's day and see their positive and negative points. You can also communicate with me through Class Dojo and its a great way to keep students accountable for their choices throughout the day!

Be checking their folders daily and be sure to clean them out and send them back to school. 😊  I will see most of you tomorrow and am looking forward to a wonderful Wednesday!!

Excitement!

Last night was meet the teacher night and the hallways were buzzing with excitement as teachers prepped their rooms and made finishing touches.  Yesterday, at convocation I was reminded about how special this job is, and how blessed I am to get to influence the lives of little ones.  For all of my parents out there, I just want to thank you for entrusting your children to me.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the first chapter in their school life books.  I cannot wait to see each and every smiling, and even nervous face Monday morning.  I will be here with open arms and a smile on my face ready to reassure them that they are preparing to embark on a magical, epic journey!  This is going to be a fantastic, memorable year!!
